EMPLOYMENT:

New Jersey Army National Guard, Specialist, February 2002 to February 2008

 - Provided Military Honors to the families of Army Veterans by reporting to the cemetery or funeral home, providing the Military service of playing TAPS to commemorate the fallen soldiers, folding the American Flag, and presenting the folded flag to the loved ones of the fallen Veteran.

 - Provided security for major transportation facilities throughout New Jersey, such as the Holland and Lincoln Tunnels, Newark International Airport, and the George Washington Bridge.

 - Provided assistance in various natural disasters such as flooding throughout the State.

 

Grassroots Campaigns, Political Organizer, September 2008 to November 2008

 - Worked on behalf of the Democratic National Committee to build direct support for Barrack Obama and other Democrats running for office across the country.

 - Presented to people of all backgrounds, ages, and incomes about their personal and political issues and concerns while canvassing door-to-door in communities throughout New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut.

 - Helped build political power for the Democratic Party by identifying hundreds of new grassroots donors and supporters.

 

AmeriCorps, Community Organizer, March 2009 to Present – Paterson, NJ

 - Committed a year of national service engaged in providing community service in a major, densely urban city in NJ which faces numerous social and economic challenges.

 - Acquired in-depth knowledge of food pantry administration in the role as an assistant supervisor in the food pantry.

 - Created an entire new service that provides monthly food delivery to over 200 elderly and disabled individuals living in Paterson and surrounding vicinity.

 - Worked with churches and local community organizations to teach individuals about the importance of proper nutrition in preventing dietary deficiencies and disease.

 - Provided street outreach to indigent individuals either living or soliciting on the streets of Paterson and surroundung vicinity to inform them of our homeless shelter and case management services to better improve their quality of life.

 - Organized, participated and held leadership responsibilities in nearly every service event conducted by St. Paul’s CDC.

 

LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE:

NJPIRG Hunger & Homelessness Campaign, Project Coordinator

Sept. 2004 to Dec. 2006 – New Brunswick, NJ

 - Organized grassroots events to collect large amounts of money and food as well as more student volunteers to assist at Elijah’s Promise Soup Kitchen.

 - Coordinated and hosted an educational panel consisting of homeless people around the New Brunswick area that educated over 200 people about the realities of being homeless.

 - Advocated for national legislation for an increase in Section 8 housing by hosting a letter writing campaign to our local Congressmen, Frank Pallone and Rush Holt, which would ensure affordable housing for millions of Americans.

 - Influential in planning the Hunger Cleanup for the greater New Brunswick area, which raised over $5,500 for local shelters and involved over 70 volunteers in a daylong service event at 12 sites in the area.

 

Student Government President – March 2005 to June 2006 – Rutgers University College

 - Learned how to foster teamwork through compromise, dedication, and commitment.

 - Had the honor and privilege of representing and advocating for over 3,000 students.

 - Helped produce quality seminars, such as one on financial management given by Ameriprise; quality events, such as a trip to see the Christmas Spectacular and a Brunch Cruise around New York Harbor; and quality monthly lectures by well-known speakers such as Dr. Ruth.

 

Lobbied Congress with Rutgers University President for more Federal Aid

May 2005 & May 2006 – Washington D.C.

 - Selected twice to accompany Rutgers University President Richard McCormick and Rutgers Vice President for Student Affairs Gregory Blimling to Capitol Hill as one of 16 Rutgers students committed to being proactive on issues that affect thousands at Rutgers.

 - The Washington DC event provided us with the opportunity to lobby a Congressional Delegation including Senator Lautenberg, Senator Rothman, and Congressman Holt, among others for increasing federal student financial aid programs like the Perkins Loan and the Pell Grant.

 - Only student selected to address 800 students with their families at University Commencement  - Rutgers University College, May 2006

 - Only AmeriCorps member in the state selected to introduce the NJ Secretary of State – May 2008
